1. What Hemma is

Hemma is a construction administration service. It helps Belgian homeowners organise documents, track budgets, manage contractors, and stay on top of their build. Hemma uses AI to process uploaded documents and surface useful information.

Hemma is a tool to support your decision-making — not a substitute for professional advice from architects, lawyers, accountants, or financial advisors.

2. Early access

Hemma is currently in early access. This means:

  • The service is offered to a limited group of invited users.
  • Features may change, be added, or be removed as the product evolves.
  • There may be bugs, incomplete functionality, or inaccuracies.
  • The service may be interrupted for maintenance, updates, or unforeseen issues.
  • We may modify or discontinue the early access programme at any time.
  • We may ask for your feedback — any feedback you provide may be used to improve the product, but you are never obligated to give it.

Early access is not a commitment to deliver a specific feature set, uptime level, or timeline for general availability.

3. Accepting these terms

By creating an account and using Hemma, you accept these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

These terms are governed by Belgian law. This does not affect any mandatory consumer protections you may have under the law of your country of residence.

4. Your account

You are responsible for:

  • Keeping your login credentials secure
  • All activity that occurs under your account

If you invite other people to a project, they must accept the applicable Terms and Privacy Policy when they first access Hemma.

You must be at least 18 years old to use Hemma. You must provide accurate information when creating your account.

5. What you can do with Hemma

You may use Hemma to manage your own residential construction or renovation project. You may invite project members (partners, family members, architects) to collaborate on your project.

You may not:

  • Use Hemma for any unlawful purpose
  • Upload documents you do not have the right to process
  • Attempt to access other users' data
  • Reverse engineer or copy the service
  • Use Hemma to manage projects on behalf of others as a commercial service (without a separate agreement with us)

6. Your data is yours

You own all data you upload to Hemma. We process it to provide the service, but we do not claim any rights over it.

You can export your budget to Excel at any time. You can download your uploaded documents at any time. If you delete your account, your data is deleted from our live systems within 30 days. Residual copies may persist in encrypted backups for up to an additional 30 days.

In shared projects, content you contributed may remain visible to other project members after you leave.

We retain limited records where required for security, fraud prevention, or legal compliance, even after account deletion. Any such retained data is described in our Privacy Policy.

We will never sell your data or use it for advertising.

7. AI processing

Hemma uses AI to process your documents. We want you to understand what this means:

AI outputs are suggestions, not decisions. When Hemma extracts data from an invoice, links it to a budget line, or flags a contractor warning, this is a suggestion for your review. You are always in control of the final outcome.

AI can make mistakes. Extraction may be incomplete or incorrect, especially for unusual document formats. Always verify important financial information against the original document.

You can always override AI. Every AI output in Hemma can be corrected or overridden by you. Your corrections take precedence.

Transparency. For every document processed, you can see exactly what the AI extracted and which AI provider processed it.

8. Contractor warning signals

Hemma may display contractor warning signals based on data retrieved from the Belgian KBO (company register) and EU VIES (VAT validation), combined with comparisons against information found in your documents. These warnings are informational only.

Hemma does not approve, certify, or confirm that a contractor is valid, reliable, or in good standing. The absence of a warning does not mean a contractor is trustworthy, compliant, or suitable. You should always conduct your own due diligence before engaging any contractor.

9. Availability and reliability

We aim to keep Hemma available and working well, but we do not guarantee any specific level of uptime or availability, particularly during this early access phase.

We back up your data regularly, but we recommend you also maintain your own copies of important documents.

10. Pricing

Hemma is currently in early access. During this phase, pricing may be tested, adjusted, or waived for invited users.

You will never be charged without your explicit consent. If a paid plan applies to you, the price and payment terms will be communicated to you clearly before any charge.

When paid plans are introduced more broadly:

  • Prices will be displayed in EUR including VAT
  • You can cancel at any time
  • We will give reasonable advance notice of any price changes

11. Limitation of liability

Hemma is provided as a tool to assist with construction project administration. It is not a substitute for professional advice, and we do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of AI-processed data, contractor warning signals, or any other output.

Limitation of our liability: To the extent permitted by Belgian law, our total liability to you for any claims arising from or related to your use of Hemma is limited to the amount you have actually paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or €100, whichever is higher.

We are not liable for indirect or consequential damages to the extent permitted by law.

Mandatory protections preserved: Nothing in these terms limits liability for intent or gross negligence, for death or personal injury caused by our fault, or for any other liability that cannot be limited under mandatory Belgian or EU law.

12. Intellectual property

Hemma, its design, and its software are our intellectual property. You may not copy, reproduce, or distribute any part of Hemma without our permission.

Your data, your documents, and your project information remain your intellectual property.

13. Termination

By you: You can close your account at any time from your profile settings. We will delete your data as described in section 6 and in the Privacy Policy.

By us: We may suspend or close your account if you materially violate these terms. Where reasonably possible, we will notify you in advance.

End of early access: If we discontinue the early access programme, we will give you reasonable notice and an opportunity to export your data.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email at least 14 days before the changes take effect.

15. Contact and disputes

If you have a complaint or concern, please contact us first at thomas@gethemma.app. We will do our best to resolve it.

If we cannot resolve a dispute, the courts of Belgium have jurisdiction, without prejudice to any mandatory rules that may give the courts of your country of residence jurisdiction.

16. Applicable law

These terms are governed by Belgian law. This does not deprive you of any mandatory consumer protections available to you under the law of your country of habitual residence.
